Innovation was evident from the start, when San Francisco’s Jewish community and Mount Zion Hospital took the first steps toward a comprehensive model of care for frail elders and disabled adults who wanted to live on their own. When Institute on Aging became an independent organization, that commitment to innovation grew as the model took shape and proved its value to Institute on Aging clients, their families, and the evolving field of geriatrics.

Our History

The history of Institute on Aging is one of innovation and partnership.

Partnership is at the heart of Institute on Aging’s commitment to innovation. Time and again Institute on Aging has teamed up with other leading institutions to better serve those in need. Our partnership with the Jewish community is as strong as ever and we are grateful for the support we receive. Throughout our history we have also been privileged to partner with the City and County of San Francisco; PACE; the University of California, San Francisco; California Pacific Medical Center; and other organizations, as well as many visionary philanthropic funders.
