Coming Soon: ENGAGE |
|
Institute on Aging is proud to launch its
first community e-newsletter, ENGAGE, your monthly guide
to aging well.
The newsletter will
highlight community events, human interest
stories, articles on aging, and "Heritage," a section
for seniors to share their family traditions. If
you are currently signed up for IOA's
professional e-newsletter, now entitled COVERAGE, you
will receive the first edition
of ENGAGE. We hope that you will find it
helpful to clients, parents, family
caregivers, and seniors in the community.

| Friendship Line Volunteers
Needed |
|
You can make a
difference!
The Friendship Line needs your help
for a vital and meaningful service supporting older
adults who are experiencing loneliness and
depression.
Become a volunteer telephone
counselor today! Exercise your listening skills as
you talk to older adults, offering companionship,
support, and assistance, acknowledgement, and
reassurance.
Counselors receive sixteen hours of
training, equipping them to offer support, crisis
intervention, elder abuse reporting, information, and
referral. Most importantly, volunteers help just
by being kind, friendly, and
compassionate.
Skills
Required: Experience in counseling or social
services is helpful, but not
required.
Commitment: Volunteers cover one
four-hour shift each week for a 6-month period. Some
