Training, Education, & Research
Training, education and research have been an important focal point of IOA since its inception.
Student and Graduate Training is an important community resource offered by IOA, providing clinical training for the next generation of health care professionals in geriatrics. Learn more about our practicum, internship, and fellowship opportunities offered through the IOA Department of Psychology.
Continuing Education for Professionals is offered on a continual basis. Please visit our Professional Education website at education.ioaging.org for extensive information on IOA's education seminars and professional training.
Community Education outreach is deeply valued at IOA, and is a hallmark of
our efforts to improve senior health and services. Please visit our Calendar
for a full list of upcoming events. You may also subscribe to a community eNewsletter
highlighting monthly events by emailing education@ioaging.org.
Research is conducted through the IOA Research Center in collaboration with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and other institutions. A major focus of our work is to objectively assess the outcomes of new community-based approaches to health and social services for older adults. IOA is also active in both clinical trials and funded research (through NIH, NIA, and foundations), investigating treatments and therapies for illnesses affecting older adults, such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, mental depression, and HIV in older adults.
