Sleep Problems in Patients with Alzheimer's Disease
This research study is evaluating whether a medication approved by the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of insomnia (difficulty
sleeping) can safely improve sleep problems in persons with mild to moderate
Alzheimer’s Disease.
Description: This is a 10-week treatment study for men and women age 55 years or older that have been diagnosed with mild to moderately severe probable Alzheimer's disease.
Length of study: 10 weeks (includes a 2 week screening period and 8 weeks of treatment).
Number of office visits: 8
Study Procedures: All at no charge, qualified participants receive the following:
- Monitoring by a board certified physician
- Study medication (taken orally once daily)
- ECG and laboratory evaluations
- Physical examination
- Memory testing
- Evaluation of behavior and sleep patterns
You may be eligible to participate in this study if the following apply:
- Male or female age 55 years or older
- Must be in stable health
- Able to follow simple instructions for memory test
- Must be fairly cooperative for study procedures
- Must have caregiver who will be asked questions regarding the patient's memory, behavior and sleep patterns
