Join the Consortium!
The goal of the Consortium for Elder Abuse Prevention is to protect and maintain the health, independence, and safety of elders. Through the coordinated efforts of its member agencies, the Consortium provides a comprehensive range of services to vulnerable seniors aimed at preventing or responding to abuse or neglect.
Benefits of Membership
- Consortium newsletter, “The Gatekeeper,” with important resources, information about upcoming trainings, and elder abuse research.
- Consortium website with handouts for professionals and links to other helpful sites (including yours!).
- Trainings for your staff or volunteers on elder abuse.
- Multidisciplinary team for review of complex elder abuse cases.
The Consortium's member agencies, which range from large public departments to small, private, not-for-profit agencies, provide case management, legal assistance, information and referral, crisis intervention, medical services, mental health counseling, and support services to victims and vulnerable seniors. Membership is free for county agencies and not-for-profit groups.
In most cases, individuals are encouraged to join as representatives of their parent agency.
Member agencies join by signing "linkage agreements" through which they agree to share information, provide training to their staff in elder abuse detection and response, and participate in collaborative advocacy and outreach. Email eap@ioaging.org for a copy of the linkage agreement.
The Institute on Aging (IOA) serves as the Consortium coordinating Agency. IOA keeps member agencies apprised of new developments and resources in the field of elder abuse, organizes training and outreach events, produces materials, consults in elder abuse cases, convenes the multidisciplinary team, and spearheads collective advocacy and outreach efforts.
