Healthcare Fraud Kills – What You Need to Know: A Senior Medicare Patrol Training

August 11 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Training Tuesday: August 11th, 12:30-1:30 p.m. (1 Continuing Education Unit)

Healthcare Fraud Kills—What You Need to Know

A Senior Medicare Patrol Training

Medicare and its 66 million beneficiaries are under attack from the many fraudsters and scammers who eye the Medicare Trust Funds as their own personal ATMs, stealing 60 billion dollars per year in fraudulent and abusive billing. Worse, the health and welfare of our older adults and persons with disabilities are at risk at the hands of unethical and unlawful medical practitioners — leading to poor health outcomes and, in many cases, emergency hospitalization or death.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how Medicare fraud negatively impacts at least three health outcomes of older adults
  • Recognize at least three current health fraud schemes
  • Explain how Medicare beneficiaries and taxpayers alike bear the cost of fraud
  • Share at least two pieces of helpful resource information, so that older adults and persons with disabilities can protect themselves and avoid becoming victims of fraud and scams

Instructor:   Micki Nozaki, Director, California Health Advocates Senior Medicare Patrol. Micki has worked in the Medicare space since 2010. Her professional career in information security and privacy spanned 25 years in the government as well as healthcare and financial industries. To complement her knowledge and experience, Micki obtained a certificate in Paralegal Studies. She is passionate about protecting older adults from all types of fraud and elder abuse and works diligently for their fair treatment and justice.
