This is a program of the IOA Clinical Collaborative Expansion of Services, funded by the San Francisco Department of Aging and Adult Services. However, all are welcome to attend.

The training is designed to provide participants an in-depth understanding of one of the most common health concerns among older adults:  urologic and urinary conditions.  Ms. Hunt will be utilizing case studies, discussion, as well as didactic presentation on the biological and anatomical aspects of urologic problems.  She will discuss complications and resultant health concerns such as falls, change in cognitive functioning and loneliness, and when urologic issues are undetected and untreated.  The training will cover early detection of warning signs, preventative measures, and treatment of urologic conditions.

Objectives:

  • Present at least two urinary tract issues commonly experienced by older adults
  • Practice at least two useful interventions when encountering a urinary tract problem
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology and common medications presented in this training
  • Identify at least 2 events which establish that a urinary tract issue is transforming from irritation to a medical problem
  • Identify at least 2 events which establish that a urinary tract issue medical problem is becoming a medical emergency

Instructor: Rebecca Hunt (Becca), MSN, AGNP-BC, Clinical Consultant, Citywide Clinical Consultation Services, IOA, is a Nurse Practitioner who also works at Stanford with a specialization in Oncology & Gerontology. Prior to becoming nurse practitioner, Becca worked at a senior care facility as a patient care aid. She continued this work throughout her education. When she graduated with her BSN, she had worked for Brookdale senior living as a patient care aid for 7 years. She developed essential patient care and interpersonal skills during these formative years and developed a passion for caring for the most vulnerable population: Our aging community. Becca worked as an inpatient nurse while completing her master’s degree from The Ohio State University in 2017. While at Ohio State she completed an internship with Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging then graduated with a specialization in Gerontology. Becca is extremely excited to focus her work on the aging population and to join the Clinical Collaborative Team as a part-time Clinical Consultant and Trainer.
