How to Volunteer
To inquire about volunteering for the Friendship Line, contact Institute on Aging’s volunteer resource coordinator at 415.750.4136 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
All volunteers undergo 20 hours of didactic classroom training and a minimum of 8 additional hours of telephone training. Once a trainee is accepted as a volunteer, there are additional trainings focused on specific topics as well as on-going supervision.
After completing the 20-hour training, Friendship Line volunteers are each asked to commit to one four-hour phone shift per week at our location in San Francisco, which is located at 3575 Geary Boulevard. Another option is one weekly overnight shift, in which you receive and make calls from your home or cell phone.
