Who Staffs the Phones

Institute on Aging staff members and volunteers are trained to listen for signs of emotional pain, cognitive decline or medical problems that might otherwise go unnoticed. They know what to do and who to notify if someone even hints at abuse or suicide. They avoid language and attitudes that feel like ageism. In every call, their goal is to help the individual feel safe, valued and fully alive.
